Places to visit whilst at Lochmeyler

The local attractions around Lochmeyler are too many and varied to be fully listed here.  The natural beauty of the Pembrokeshire countryside is on our doorstep, and the bays and coves of the coastline are just a short distance away.  To the south Newgale has dramatic sea views which vary remarkably with the prevailing weather conditions.  Solva is an attractive little village and picturesque harbour four miles south west of us.  A mile or so further west and you reach St David's with its wonderful cathedral and White Sands beach with access to some of the most spectacular parts of the coastal footpath.  There are views out to sea and many exciting boat trips to and round the islands.

To the north of Lochmeyler are numerous bays and coves.  Perhaps two villages of particular mention are Porthgain with its industrial history and an interesting old pub, The Sloop, and Abereiddy with its disused quarry, the history of the row of ruined miners cottages, good walking ground or just a stroll. Both coves have parking space just a few metres from the sea. Slightly further afield is Strumble Head with its lighthouse, prehistoric burial chambers, forts, and open countryside.  A tour of the Gwaun Valley and the Preseli  Hills presents breathtaking views of the coast and countryside. Then there are the towns of Fishguard, Haverfordwest and Pembroke.  Each have their own character, shops, tourist interests and facilities, in particular Pembroke with its castle which is an absolute must to visit.  There are many other wonderful castles within visiting distance such as Carew, Picton, Newport, Nevern, Narberth, Manorbier.  Whilst down at Manorbier it is only a mile or two to Tenby and Saundersfoot with their interesting towns and beautiful beaches.

In the surrounding countryside are many small villages with places of interest, churches, mills etc., even a fish restaurant, which is probably the best in Pembrokeshire, in the village of Letterston. There are many man made attractions such as Oakwood Leisure Centre, Folly Farm with attractions and farm animals, Tregwynt Woollen Mill,  Carfai  Cheese, Mathry Woodturners, Ramsey Island Boat Trips, Thousand Island Boat Trips, The Castell Henllys Settlement, Wolfcastle Pottery, Keeston Motor Museum, Cilgwyn Candle Making, Rare breeds Centre, and various fishing facilities.

Where and when to finish these details is a problem. If you stay at Lochmeyler, the comprehensive information package in the bedroom will help you plan your time and activities, but you will probably need two weeks, or come again next year.
